History Channel – History of Harley Davidson

A look at how the legendary motorcycle company was born and evolved through the 20th century. Boyhood buddies William Harley and Arthur Davidson built their first machine in a small shed in Milwaukee in 1901.

For the past century, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company has sold more than just a motorcycle; they've sold a slice of Americana. From a humble beginning, in a 10 by 15 foot shed, to an empire that stretches across the globe, Harley-Davidson has succeeded where others have failed. In 1901 Milwaukee, boyhood friends William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson begin building a motorized bicycle from one of Harley's blueprints. In a ten by fifteen foot shed in the Davidson's backyard, with the words "Harley-Davidson Motor Company" scrawled on the door, an American Icon was born.
